ChildFund in Laos collaborated with Sengsavang in monitoring activities and handing over equipment to support small grant initiatives for four schools in Savanhnakhet Province under the activities of “the Child Protection Network and Strengthening Child and Youth Participation” which are detailed below:
01. Outhoumphone High School implemented activities to combat and repress the phenomenon within the school. This encouraged students to improve their abilities, build strength, express themselves, come up with innovative ideas, and avoid addiction, gambling, and addictive activities.
02. Nongsaphung High School implemented a “Peer-to-Peer Education” activity for solving the issue of student absenteeism by organising a sport competition, Lao dance (Forn) and Q&A activities. Through these activities, students would be eligible to receive a school scholarship.
03. Phonesavanh High School implemented the “STOP BULLYING” activity in order for people in the community to have a better understanding of equal rights and gender diversity (LGBTQ+).
04. Ban Phin High School implemented the “Sister Helps Sister” activity in order to prevent adolescent pregnancy, considering the effects and preventing addiction, as well as promoting the growing of healthful vegetables.
By supporting these small grant initiatives, youth leaders are being empowered to implement their own activities for development. They are gaining knowledge that is suitable for other challenging problems, as well as forwarding knowledge to peers and making maximum benefits for the school and community. We are grateful to the Australian Government through the Australian NGO Cooperation Program (ANCP) for funding this project through the #ANCP program. This is #AustralianAid at work in Laos!
