MoU Signing Ceremony for Child and Youth Empowerment for Climate Change Action Project

Vientiane Capital, 09 February 2023
Press Release: MoU Signing Ceremony for Child and Youth Empowerment for Climate Change Action Project, ChildFund in Laos

Children in the Lao PDR face many challenges as a result of climate change, natural disasters such as droughts, floods, storms and pestilences which have caused the most damage in Laos. Climate change has caused more and more challenges. Although children are the least responsible, children are also affected by climate change because they do not have the knowledge to deal with those events, including how to respond and cope with climate change.

Therefore, ChildFund in Laos in partnership with the Commission for Advancement of Women, Mothers and Children in Vientiane Capital (CAWMC) implements the Child and Youth Empowerment for Climate Change Action Project, which aims to empower children and adolescents to participate, act, and lead climate change actions in their schools and communities by setting up education support systems for life skills development in schools; strengthening life skills development and climate change awareness; keeping clean in schools-communities and promoting sustainable city recycling programs in their schools and communities. The project is funded by ChildFund Korea worth USD 106.928 (one hundred six thousand and nine hundred twenty-eight US Dollars only) and will be implemented in 30 target schools of Sikhodtabong District, Vientiane Capital and will run until July 31, 2023.

A memorandum of understanding was signed between the National Commission for the Advancement of Women, Mothers and Children, represented by the Secretariat of the Commission for the Advancement of Women, Mothers and Children of Vientiane Capital, Ms Lienkham Vilaphun, Vice President the Commission for Advancement of Women, Mothers and Children in Vientiane Capital (CAWMC) and Mr. Vilasai Thammavong, ChildFund in Laos’ Acting Country Director – Programs.
